HCPC Launches Nationwide Campaign to Prevent Corruption and Electoral Fraud

The High Authority for the Prevention and Fight against Corruption (HCPC) has launched a nationwide awareness campaign aimed at preventing corruption and electoral fraud ahead of upcoming electoral activities. The initiative seeks to strengthen public awareness of the dangers posed by corrupt practices during elections while promoting transparency, accountability, and responsible civic participation.

Speaking during a media engagement, Mr. Etienne Badou, Head of the Studies, Training, and Monitoring & Evaluation Service at HCPC, underscored the importance of preventive measures in safeguarding democratic processes. He emphasized that corruption during elections undermines public trust, weakens democratic institutions, and compromises the credibility and legitimacy of electoral outcomes.

The campaign, which runs from 9 to 26 March, will feature a series of public sensitization activities including media outreach, community engagements, and educational programmes targeting voters, political actors, and other key stakeholders.

Through these activities, HCPC aims to encourage citizens to reject vote-buying and other corrupt practices while promoting ethical conduct throughout the electoral process. The initiative also highlights the critical role of citizens in reporting suspected cases of corruption and contributing to credible, transparent, and accountable elections.

This campaign reflects HCPC’s continued commitment to strengthening integrity and accountability in democratic governance and contributes to broader regional efforts to promote transparency and combat corruption in West Africa. Such initiatives align with the mission of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa (NACIWA), which seeks to strengthen cooperation among national institutions and promote a culture of integrity across the region.
